“Suave” is an original song by Guatemalan singer-songwriter, composer, conductor, and dancer Jeffrey Ortega. Jeffrey is the artist director and conductor of Vocalis — a choral organization based in Guatemala — and my dear friend. One of the finest musicians I know, Jeff has a knack for weaving compelling melodies and lyrics with luscious harmonies. When Jeff plays his songs on guitar, joined by his sensitive and wide-ranging voice, it’s as if his voice and the guitar are one instrument. I fell in love with “Suave” the first time I heard Jeff play it, and wished to create a version for choir with the same sensitivity that Jeff brings to his own performance of it. |

| Text | Dicen que mi voz es algo suave que no alcanzaría la distancia. Yo creo que no necesito fuerza. [En la suavidad hay tanta fuerza.] Suave, suave, suave, cuando tú te acercas. [cuando tú me besas.] Suave, suave, suave, me escuchas tú. Translation: They say there is a softness to my voice, that it may never carry far enough. I don’t think I need to force it. [In softness there is such power.] Softly, softly, softly, when you come close. [when you kiss me.] Softly, softly, softly, you can hear me. Translation by Jake Runestad |
