“Mechanical Minds” was commissioned by Bill Nerenberg for the Baltimore Concerto Orchestra.
About the piece:
“Mechanical Minds” realizes the virtuosic potential of an orchestra as the players whirl through an array of industrial soundscapes. Motivic material is based on perfect fifths and mutations of that interval paired with half-steps providing chromatic ornamentation. A boisterous fanfare begins the piece and returns after an extensive canon that snakes through the ensemble exploring its vast textural possibilities. The raging orchestral machine never lets up as it builds momentum to the point of chaos in a frenzied collision of musical material.
